The phone call started out standard, as we get calls from future customers all the time who purchased a bunny from a Pet Store or another Breeder and it passed because of varying factors completely out of their control. In this instance however, their bunny was purchased out of 20 bunnies packed into a box at a State Fair in which you could choose any bunny for $100 and take one home with you. No Instructions given, no follow ups, not a single point of reference to help specifically take care of the baby bunny. So naturally with no knowledge and research, the bunny went home and was left with full access to the house and for $100 the boy friend's consensus was he would not pay more than $100 ever again because his girlfriend would not have the drive to raise the bunny accordingly to the proper safety regulations laid out. Unfortunately a bunny should have never went home in this instance, and just an added quick note, if you have additional questions whether you purchased a bunny from us or not, please reach out at any point. That bunny had already passed prior to us speaking. It's life as a pet was 6 days long. The bunny was given carrots, fruits and vegetables as their diet and that was all, no pellets, no hay, nothing. The moral of the story is, If you do decide on a bunny, make sure it is the right decision and that it is from a reputable breeder. Make sure that you are willing to work on aftercare and pre-purchase preparation. If you do, your bunny will live a long happy life and that is what the main goal should always be. So in the future whether it is Lovely Bunny's or not please, please do your home work and make sure you are not buying a bunny out of a box of 20 at random. This did not seem as traumatic for them as it was for myself, but everyone is different. Just please stay aware, while full grown Holland Lops are less maintenance than a dog or cat, they still need to be taken care of properly and exactly as instructed, which is not difficult to do at all, it just has to be done right! An extremely large percentage of Rabbits bought for Easter for example, die or are given up within the first year. This is because of impulse buying, poor personality development, poor breeding, and unhealthy characteristic traits. We work hard on our end to eliminate this, so all we ask on your end is to continue to update us with questions, and to commit to loving your bunny for all the years you are lucky enough to have them around! I wish today could have been a more upbeat blog article, but it was something that I felt I needed to address from a moral standpoint...
