1. When first brought home at 8 weeks and 2 days old, or older, your main focus should be bonding with your bunny, and introducing them to them to small area where they can grow accustomed to their new surroundings.
2. Continue to give your bunny love and comfort as they finish off completing the litter training process of naturally. 3. At 3 to 3 and a half months, you can now extend your bunny's cage by adding a circular ex-pen, for more room and to stimulate your bunny as they like to run in a circular motion. It is important to note to make sure your bunny cannot wiggle out of the Ex-Pen if left unattended. 4. Make sure the Ex-Pen at this point does not have any access to carpeting. This is to prevent them from accidentally ingesting the carpet, along with carpeting can carry bacteria unless disinfected properly. In the 70's, 80's, and 90's carpeting was very popular, but as time went on most houses transition to wood flooring because of issues like dead skin cells being tracked deep within the carpeting. This is especially important when your bunny is not fully developed pre the 6 month mark, and their immune systems and digestive tracks are still developing. 5. For the bottom of the Ex-Pen, we recommend, Hard Plastic Non- Slip Grip Matting so your bunny has traction to hop and binky without causing friction. 6. At the 5-6 month mark, you can now expand to a Bunny Proofed room or entire floor for your pet bunny to enjoy. We recommend always leaving the cage so they can go in to use their litter box, eat, drink water, and rest since that was their original territory. 7. Once your bunny has full access to a floor at 6-7 months, they can be taught to go up and down the stairs if you would like them to have access to the full home. Following these steps not only makes the transition much more effective, but much more safe as well, which is what we all want for all our bunnies!
